Microsoft ends technical support for Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 as of July 13, 2010. What will happen to Windows XP SP2 users and especially Windows 2000 users?
First of all, this means that no more Service Packs (SP) will be added to Windows 2000. Service Packs are security updates or enhancements to the operating systems. You see them when your computer prompts with a yellow balloon at the bottom to installed security updates. For Windows 2000, SP 4 is the last service pack.
As for Windows XP, the current service pack is SP3. So, if you have Windows XP with only SP2, your Microsoft support will end also on July 13, 2010. But, you can easily extend your IT support with Microsoft by simply upgraded to Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Then, you’ll have extended support from Microsoft until April 8, 2014. It is the best to install all of the security updates on your operating system. This will ensure you have the best stability for your computer. By doing this, you’ll also install the latest service packs.
